Briar Prestidge

Educational Director
Language and Social Studies Teacher

I grew up in Taupo, a small town on the North Island of New Zealand. Throughout my youth I attended a variety of schools, chasing education and outdoor recreation opportunities around the country. After finishing high school, I began my degree at Victoria University of Wellington, graduating with a Bachelor of Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts. Once completing my degree, I taught elementary for three years in Wellington, before moving to British Columbia, Canada.

I am an enthusiastic and motivated teacher who strives to make every day both an exciting and enriching learning experience for all my students. I believe that collaboration and inquiry based learning is an essential part of any student’s education. My teaching practice is centered around the idea that learning is a lifelong pursuit. Giving students agency is to ensure that they gain the required skills to take responsibility for their own learning and confidently participate in any community. This also encourages innovation and original thought. Relationships are the foundation of all academic success. Creating a safe, supportive and active learning environment helps ensure students achieve academic success in their learning journey.

I love spending time outside, making the Sea to Sky corridor the perfect playground for me. My spare time is spent making the most of our beautiful environment mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, and trail running.

I’m very excited to be a part of Summit Academy and am looking forward to all the adventures ahead!
